- The mode decides whether your picture leaves your device. Sharpen is a local canvas filter. Restore, Colorize, Upscale and Denoise upload the whole image to an AI provider through our server proxy - do not use those modes on private photos. AI modes also reinterpret the image rather than recovering it: a restored face is the model's guess, not the real detail.
If it does not work
Sharpening made it look crunchy
Sharpen raises edge contrast; it cannot recover detail that is not there. Start from a better original.
An AI mode failed or returned a quota error
The provider's image quota is exhausted. The local Sharpen mode still works.
The AI result does not look like my photo
AI modes regenerate rather than repair. Faces and fine text in particular can come back changed.

The modes, explained
Image Enhancer works in two very different ways depending on the mode, and the mode also decides whether your picture leaves your device:

- A canvas filter that raises edge contrast, done in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and it works offline once the page has loaded.
- Restore, Colorize, Upscale, Denoise (AI)
- The whole image is sent through our server to Google Gemini, with Hugging Face as a fallback, and a new image comes back.
- Before / After / Split
- Compare the result with the original before you download.
What it cannot do
- Sharpen cannot recover detail that is not in the photo; overdone, it looks crunchy.
- AI modes reinterpret the image rather than recovering it. A restored face is the model's guess, not the real person, and fine text can change.
- AI modes depend on the provider's quota and can be unavailable; Sharpen still works.
- Do not use the AI modes on private photos, because the image is uploaded to an AI provider. The free allowance is 5 runs per day for this tool, counted in your browser and reset at midnight UTC.

It depends on the mode, and this is the one thing to get right. Sharpen runs entirely in your browser. Restore, Colorize, Upscale and Denoise send the full image to Google Gemini (with Hugging Face as fallback) through taimurtools.com/api.php. Do not use those on private photos.
Is the AI restoring the real detail?
No. It generates plausible detail. It is not evidence of what was actually in the original.
