Runs on your device
Your file is opened and processed by JavaScript inside this page. It is never uploaded and we never receive it. The page does download the processing library it needs from a public CDN the first time you use it - that request carries no part of your file.
Free tier: 5 runs per day for this tool, counted in your browser. The counter resets at midnight UTC and is not shared between browsers or devices.

What this tool is for
- Hitting a required size for a profile picture or a marketplace listing
- Cutting a huge photo down to something a page can load quickly
| What it does | Scales an image to new pixel dimensions on a canvas in the page, keeping its proportions unless you switch that off, and saves it in its original format. |
|---|---|
| Accepted input | One image (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP), plus the width and height you want, or a quick preset (50%, 25%, 1920, 1080 or 800 wide). |
| What you get back | The image at the new size in its original format (JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP; other formats become PNG), named like photo-1080x720.jpg, with a preview and the before and after sizes. |
| Limits | Capped at 5 runs per day for this tool. |
| Browser requirements | Any current browser. |
A worked example
- Input
- A 3000x2000 JPG photo, preset "1080 wide".
- What comes back
- big-1080x720.jpg - the height follows automatically, and the file drops from 579 KB to 146 KB.
- Worth knowing
- Enlarging past the original size will look soft - a browser canvas cannot invent detail. If you need a genuine upscale, Image Enhancer has an AI upscale mode, but that one sends your image to an AI provider. If you untick Keep proportions and type a different shape, the picture is stretched, and the result says so.
If it does not work
The image looks stretched
Keep proportions was switched off and the width and height are a different shape from the original. Tick Keep proportions, or crop to the new shape first.
Enlarging looks blurry
Expected. Scaling up cannot add detail.
"Enter a width and height between 1 and 16,000 pixels"
One of the boxes is empty, zero or too large. Type a number in that range.
Nothing happens on Resize

How to use Image Resizer
- Add your imageDrop it onto the upload area, or click to pick it. The width and height boxes fill in with the picture's own size.
- Set the sizeType a new width or height and the other one follows, because Keep proportions is on. Or tap a preset such as 50% or 1080 wide. Untick Keep proportions only if you really want an exact shape that differs from the original.
- Resize and downloadClick Resize, check the preview and sizes, and download.
When to use Image Resizer
Hitting a required size for a profile picture
Social profiles, staff directories and application forms often ask for specific pixel dimensions. Type them and download an image of exactly that size.
Preparing a marketplace or store listing image
Listing sites ask for images of a set width or height. Resize to the stated numbers, then compress if the file is also over a size limit.
Cutting a huge photo down for the web
A photo straight off a phone can be 4,000 pixels wide, many times more than a page shows. Resizing it makes the page faster to load.
Making a thumbnail or avatar
Small fixed-size images, such as an 80 by 80 avatar, are quick to produce when you know the exact dimensions.
Making images fit a document template
Reports and slide decks often need pictures at a particular width. Resizing first avoids a file that is much heavier than the page needs.
How the options work
Add a picture and the boxes fill in with its own size. Change one number, or tap a preset:
- Width and height
- In pixels. They start at the picture's own size, so you can see what you are changing.
- Keep proportions
- On by default: type a width and the height follows, or the other way round, so nothing is stretched. Switch it off only when you need an exact shape that differs from the original; the result then warns that the picture was stretched.
- Presets
- 50%, 25%, 1920 wide, 1080 wide and 800 wide - one tap, with the other side worked out for you.
- Output format
- The same as the original for JPG, PNG and WebP, so a photo stays a compact JPG. Other formats are saved as PNG. The file is named with the new size, for example photo-1080x720.jpg.
- Metadata
- Because the image is redrawn, details such as camera EXIF data are not carried across to the result.
What it cannot do
- It cannot crop. Switching off Keep proportions and typing a different shape squashes or stretches the picture; if the target has a different ratio, crop first and then resize.
- Enlarging beyond the original looks soft, because a browser canvas cannot invent detail. Image Enhancer has an AI upscale mode, but that sends your image to an AI provider.
- It does not compress to a file size. If the portal limits kilobytes as well as pixels, resize first and then use Image Compressor.
- One image per run, and the free allowance is 5 runs per day for this tool, counted in your browser.
How it compares with the alternatives
The Photos app, Preview and Paint can all resize an image and most can lock the aspect ratio and crop. If you want proportional resizing with a mouse drag, use those.
Image Resizer is for when you know the exact numbers a form or a platform wants and you need them quickly in a browser, on any device, without sending the picture to a server. The scaling happens in your browser tab.
How in-browser processing works, and exactly which tools are the exception, is explained on the why client-side page.
Getting a better result
Use a preset for the web
1920 wide suits a full-width page image; 1080 wide suits social posts and most upload forms.
Crop before you resize
If a form needs a square and your photo is landscape, crop to a square first (Social Media Image Cropper does this), then resize.
Resize down from the largest original
Shrinking keeps detail; enlarging does not.
Compress afterwards if needed
If the upload also has a file-size limit, run the result through Image Compressor.
More questions about Image Resizer
Will it stretch my picture?
Not unless you switch off Keep proportions. With it on, the second number is worked out for you.
What format do I get back?
The same as your original for JPG, PNG and WebP. Use Image Compressor if you also need an exact KB size.
Can it resize several images at once?
No, one image per run.
Does it keep my camera details?
No. The image is redrawn on a canvas, so metadata is not carried over.

Frequently asked questions
Does it keep the proportions?
Yes, by default. Type a width and the height follows (or the other way round). Untick Keep proportions to set both freely.
What format is the result?
The same as your original for JPG, PNG and WebP; anything else is saved as PNG.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It is scaled on a canvas inside this page.
Can I upscale?
You can set a larger size, but it will be soft. Image Enhancer's AI upscale is the alternative - note that it sends the image to an AI provider.
Is there a limit?
Yes - 5 runs per day for this tool.
