CGPA to Percentage Calculator

Enter your CGPA to get the percentage on a 4.0 (or 5.0) scale: percentage = CGPA ÷ 4 × 100, so 3.2 is 80%. You can also convert a percentage back to CGPA, or work out your CGPA from semester GPAs and credit hours.

For a job form or admission that asks for an exact percentage, use the conversion printed on your transcript if it has one - some universities publish their own table.

Is there an official HEC formula?

Most Pakistani universities grade on a 4.0 scale, and the conversion most forms and employers use is a straight proportion:

percentage = CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 (the same as CGPA × 25)

The Higher Education Commission does not publish one conversion that every university must use. Some universities print their own table on the transcript, linking grade bands to percentage bands, and their results can differ a little from the straight proportion. When a form asks for "percentage as per your university", use your university's key; when it simply asks you to convert, the proportion above is the accepted method.

CGPA from semester GPAs

Your CGPA is a credit-weighted average, not a simple average of semester GPAs. Multiply each semester's GPA by its credit hours, add those up and divide by the total credit hours. A heavy semester counts more than a light one.

Worked examples

CGPA 3.2 out of 4 → 3.2 ÷ 4 × 100 = 80% CGPA 3.5 out of 4 → 3.5 ÷ 4 × 100 = 87.5% 75% on a 4.0 scale → 75 ÷ 100 × 4 = 3.0

Three semesters: GPA 3.1 over 18 credit hours, 3.5 over 17 and 3.8 over 16.

points = 3.1 × 18 + 3.5 × 17 + 3.8 × 16 = 55.8 + 59.5 + 60.8 = 176.1 CGPA = 176.1 ÷ (18 + 17 + 16) = 176.1 ÷ 51 = 3.45

The simple average of the three GPAs is 3.47 - close, but not what your transcript shows.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CGPA to percentage in Pakistan?
On a 4.0 scale, divide your CGPA by 4 and multiply by 100 - the same as multiplying by 25. A CGPA of 3.2 is 3.2 × 25 = 80%.
What percentage is 3.0 CGPA?
75% on a 4.0 scale (3.0 ÷ 4 × 100).
Does HEC have an official CGPA to percentage formula?
HEC does not publish one conversion that every university must use. Many universities print their own conversion on the transcript. If yours does, use it; otherwise CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 is the accepted conversion.
How is CGPA calculated from semester GPAs?
Multiply each semester's GPA by its credit hours, add the results, and divide by the total credit hours. A simple average of the GPAs is slightly wrong whenever semesters have different credit hours.
What CGPA is 60 percent?
2.4 on a 4.0 scale (60 ÷ 100 × 4).

What this calculator does not do

  • It uses the straight proportional conversion; your university's own table may give slightly different figures.
  • It does not convert letter grades or quality points per course - use the GPA calculator for that.
  • Equivalence of foreign grades is decided by HEC, not by a formula.
